Public Speaking Course:Talk About Your FamilyIn my public speaking course I talk about how a fun way to build some rapport with your audience is to tell a funny story about your family. It's a great way to build a strong connection with your audience. Most audience members get the "warm fuzzies" when you mention your spouse or kids in a positive light. Family evokes feelings of joy and happiness in most people. Of course, you do run the risk that a few people in the audience may not like their spouse after a big argument or a divorce, or kids for reasons related to rebellion or rejection. But most folks do like to hear positive family stories, even when their family might not be so positive at the time. Generally the benefits of talking about your family far outweigh the risks. |
